Here's a few pictures of my 1970 Cougar XR7
Convertible. This is one of only 1,977 XR7 convertibles built
that year. It carried an original sticker price of $3,870. It has gone through a complete frames off
restoration. I bought her completely finished in June of 2001 and no
one could possible pry my hands off her. Her name is Molly.
The restoration
included a new engine and drive train. The original engine blew
up around 53,000 miles. The person that did the restoration had
her for 19 years! He put in a 351 BOSS Cleveland from a 1971
Mustang (the only year, I believe, that they made 351 BOSS engines). Her
favorite pastime is running on the open roads, is sometimes quite
difficult to keep her even close to the speed limit. Her second
favorite pastime is sunbathing with her top down. . . She loves all
the attention and stares that she gets.
The engine was on the dyno and the number rang in at 340 hp.
No dents, dings rust or pits...back to 100%. But due to my
daughters demands, we added a CD player and removable speakers to hear
it with when we're singing together. The
racing cam must have helped up the horses. She runs a little
loud and a little rough when she's idling but smooth as glass when she
is running open.
She is so sweet to look at when she is standing
still that I had to take pictures and show folks on web. To keep
a car of this magnitude to myself would be just too selfish.
The
miles on her since reassembled is 4300. She had 1600 when I
bought her.
